.Located in Berlin, this project examined the adaptive reuse of a vast, disused cigarette factory, reimagining it as a large-scale, multi-auditoria performance venue. The industrial scale and open spatial qualities of the existing structure presented a unique opportunity to accommodate multiple performance spaces within a single complex, while retaining the character and identity of the original building.

Drawing on the history of the factory and its wider urban and cultural context, the concept study investigated how the building’s industrial heritage could inform a contemporary intervention. Particular emphasis was placed on understanding the logistics and practicality of the conversion, including circulation strategies, acoustic separation between auditoria, structural adaptability, and the integration of modern technical infrastructure.

The project explored the full potential of the site, assessing how such a transformation could activate a previously dormant building and contribute to Berlin’s vibrant cultural landscape. Through careful spatial planning and strategic reuse of existing fabric, the proposal demonstrates how large industrial structures can be successfully repurposed to support diverse performance uses while preserving their historical significance.
